Bluegrass music is a
Southern sound and the product of the genius of Kentuckian Bill
Monroe. The name "bluegrass" is derived from the name of his band --
The Blue Grass Boys.
Fiddle, banjo, and mandolin soloing
over a driving rhythm guitar and acoustic bass are the essence
of traditional bluegrass music. The high-pitched, "lonesome"
nature of the vocals harkens back to the mountains
of Appalachia -- the crucible where Scots, Irish, and African
cultures blended in destitution.
Pennsylvania Bluegrass
Academy
SM
entertainment and education services create an awareness
of bluegrass history and culture and teach basic instrumental
skills to student musicians of all ages in south-central
Pennsylvania.

NOTES
FROM NEV
Hey there, all you
Bluegrass music lovers. It's been a while, hasn't
it? Sorry 'bout that. But I've been very busy here
with Pennsylvania Bluegrass Academy projects.
Two ensemble classes are
currently running on Wednesday evenings. Students in
both the Hershey and Campbelltown classes are progressing
nicely and acquiring the jamming skills that will enable them
to be comfortable and successful at public Bluegrass
jams.
I've been working on the
publication of two new songbooks of my original music.
These books (one would've been too heavy to carry) will
contain lyrics and melody to vocal works of mine, both
recorded and unrecorded. These books will supplement my
previously released tablature book of banjo instrumentals
entitled "Uniquely Instrumental." The
new books, "Part-Time Player" and "Sing That Song Again,"
will be available in early spring 2010.
Again, stay tuned.
And finally, I'd like to
encourage you to check out my banjo instruction website,
which is currently under construction:
www.mybanjoteacher.com
You'll find some free lessons as well as a wealth of
information from some of my past workshops. Check it
out. I'm sure you'll find it friendly and helpful.
Thanks,
Nev Jackson
